CO2 emissions from the production of all Samsung and Apple smartphones
In our last four blog posts, we took a closer look at the carbon footprint of Samsung and Apple smartphones. Now it's time for an overall comparison of these two brands. Samsung has many models with lower emissions, while Apple mainly dominates the higher end of the spectrum.

CO₂ vs. CO₂e: CO₂e stands for "carbon dioxide equivalent." In simple terms, CO₂e measures the total greenhouse gas emissions, expressed as the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide. On the other hand, CO₂ only measures carbon emissions and does not account for other greenhouse gases.
Source: Samsung and Apple's life cycle reports. The CO₂ values for all iPhones refer to models with the lowest possible internal storage (GB). Internal storage also impacts CO₂ emissions, but this aspect has been excluded here.
