From 3 hours to 15 minutes: Mastering mobile repair with our courses
"The art to learn is the key to repair. My first tear-down took me almost three hours, but with Justin's help and my own motivation, I was able to complete it in just 15 minutes. I started from scratch – and now I'm able to repair a phone!"
This is how Daan van de Kleut from UsedProducts (Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands) described his experience after attending our recent L1/L2 Basic Mobile Repair Training, led by internationally renowned trainer Justin Ashford from The Art of Repair.
His story perfectly illustrates what these trainings are all about: building confidence, developing practical skills and helping repair professionals grow, regardless of their starting level.
Learning by doing
For many technicians, entering the world of mobile repair can seem overwhelming. Modern smartphones are becoming increasingly complex, and without proper guidance it can take a long time to develop the skills and confidence needed to perform repairs efficiently.
Our L1/L2 Basic Mobile Repair Training has been designed to remove that barrier.
Rather than focusing solely on theory, participants spend most of their time working hands-on with a wide variety of devices and brands. They learn proven repair techniques, discover the correct use of professional tools and gain practical experience that can immediately be applied in their own repair business.
Even older devices play an important role during the training. As Justin Ashford likes to tell his students: "If you can take apart an iPad 2, you can handle almost anything."
Working on challenging devices helps participants develop a deeper understanding of hardware structures while building the precision and confidence needed for modern smartphone repairs.
Building confidence
Another participant, Justin Houterman from MobileCare (Ewijk, The Netherlands), arrived with only limited repair experience.
"Before the training, I had only done a few basic repairs: just two phones. The training gave me a structured way to really understand the process and build confidence. What I learned fits perfectly with what is required in my job."
The biggest benefit, according to this participant, wasn't simply learning how to replace parts.
"I now have a much better understanding of the field and what is needed to perform repairs properly. I can now truly help customers and carry out repairs with confidence. I'm even interested in taking the next step, such as microsoldering."
That progression – from basic repairs to advanced techniques – is exactly what the training programme is designed to achieve.

Practical skills that make a difference
Throughout the five-day course, participants learn much more than how to disassemble and reassemble devices.
They discover how the correct repair techniques, quality tools and professional materials can significantly improve repair quality while reducing unnecessary mistakes and material waste.
This practical approach translates directly into everyday repair work, helping technicians work more efficiently while increasing customer satisfaction.
Lars van Hulst from MobileCare described the training as:
"Accessible, engaging and led by the perfect trainer, who is enthusiastic and supportive."
Despite already having years of experience repairing laptops, smartphones, televisions and desktop computers, Lars still found the training valuable.
"I've been working with electronic devices for years, but this training gave me a much clearer understanding and helped me refine my skills."
Whether participants are complete beginners or experienced technicians, Justin Ashford adapts the training to their individual level, ensuring everyone gets the maximum benefit from the course.
Taking repair skills to the next level
For technicians ready to expand their expertise even further, we also organise the L2/L3 Microsoldering Mobile Repair Training.

This intensive seven-day course focuses on advanced board-level repairs and microsoldering techniques, allowing participants to repair devices that would otherwise be considered beyond repair.
The training consistently receives outstanding feedback from participants.
Bryan Gielen (Bay IC Repair, USA) described it simply as:
"For me, this is probably one of the best courses I have ever attended."
Sam Perez (CombiPhone, the Netherlands), training participant and Dutch champion Mobile Repair 2025, who had previously attended several editions, returned specifically to further develop his skills.
"I love being with the techs around me. They all share the same interest as I do. I soldered before, but not at the level I'm at now. That's the reason I followed the course again. I fix many more devices and have fewer failures thanks to the tips and tricks I learned."
Many participants also appreciate the unique learning environment. Rather than leaving after each training day, participants stay together throughout the week, creating an atmosphere where learning continues long after the official sessions have ended. Justin Ashford explains:
"When everybody arrives together, leaves together, gets good food, gets good rest, or stays up all night talking instead, it really helps the energy and morale of the group."

The optional all-inclusive package includes accommodation, meals, transport, unlimited lab access and certification, allowing participants to focus entirely on developing their skills while building valuable connections with fellow repair professionals.
As Patrick Schmitt (iSchmitt Repair, Switzerland), put it:
"I would certainly recommend staying together. It's not only the repairs, it's also the exchange."
Learning doesn't stop after the course
One aspect that makes the training unique is the long-term support participants receive.
When asked whether former students are really welcome to return to future editions free of charge, Justin Ashford confirmed the rumour with a smile.
"Yes, rumours travel fast – and it's true! Those who do come back have really changed as technicians, shop owners and entrepreneurs. I'll be here with the door wide open for you."
This philosophy reflects the goal of the programme: creating a community of repair professionals who continue learning, sharing knowledge and developing together.
